Sitting Meditation
The Triple Integration of Body, Breath, and Energy
As meditation matures, practitioners may experience a unified state:the body is relaxed yet stable, breathing is natural and refined, and energy flows gently and evenly. This is the triple integration of body, breath, and energy. It is not a technique to be forced, nor a goal to be pursued, but a natural outcome when effort subsides and awareness remains present.
1. What Is the “Triple Integration”?
1.Integration of the body
The body no longer works in fragments;posture supports itself as a whole.
2.Integration of the breath
Breathing is unmanipulated, yet fully aligned with bodily rhythm.
3.Integration of energy
Energy is smooth and balanced, neither rushing nor stuck.
2. Why Must All Three Integrate Together?
1.Body without breath lacks sustainability
Good posture with disturbed breathing still holds tension.
2.Breath without body leads to imbalance
Refined breathing with rigid posture disrupts coordination.
3.Focusing on energy alone invites deviation
Without body and breath as anchors, energy experiences become unstable.
3. Conditions That Allow Integration to Arise
1.Relaxed yet alert body
Stability without slackness.
2.Natural, unforced breathing
No control, no suppression.
3.Gentle, continuous awareness
Present without strain or distraction.
4. Common Signs of Triple Integration
1.Sitting becomes effortless
The body feels supported rather than held.
2.Breath and posture self-adjust
Harmony without conscious correction.
3.Energy sensations recede into the background
They support calm rather than demand attention.
5. Supporting Natural Integration
1.Return to whole-body awareness
Avoid piecemeal adjustments.
2.Let the breath mediate
Allow awareness to move with breathing, without directing energy.
3.Stabilize body and breath when imbalance appears
Energy issues often resolve at this level.
6. Common Pitfalls and Reminders
1.Do not judge integration by sensation intensity
True integration shows as steadiness.
2.Avoid over-analysis
Integration is lived,not conceptual.
3.Support practice with daily balance
Regular rest and movement help maintain harmony.
Conclusion
The triple integration of body, breath, and energy is a sign of maturing practice, not an endpoint. When body is stable, breath is natural, and awareness is clear, energy aligns on its own—and practice unfolds with ease and continuity.
