How the Source of Mind Is Seen

In practice, many focus on observing thoughts, emotions, and states, yet overlook a deeper question:From where does the mind arise? The “source of mind” is not a location or an object—it is the awareness that knows all experiences. It is not found through analysis, but revealed when the chase after phenomena ceases.

1. What Is the “Source of Mind”?

1.Not the beginning of thoughts or emotions

It is not the first thought, but what knows thinking itself.

2.Awareness itself

Not something observed, but the condition that allows observing.

3.Formless and unlocatable

It cannot be pointed to,yet it is always present.

2. Why Is the Source Hard to See?

1.Attention habitually moves outward

We focus on what appears, not what knows.

2.We try to understand it intellectually

Thinking handles objects,not the source.

3.Quiet simplicity is overlooked

The source is silent and subtle, easily missed.

3. The Essential Shift Toward the Source

1.From content to knowing

Instead of following thoughts, rest with the knowing of them.

2.Allowing experience without interference

When control and judgment drop, awareness reveals itself.

3.Returning fully to the present

The source is neither past nor future—only now.

4. Practical Pointers That Reveal the Source

1.Notice where thoughts disappear

When a thought ends,what remains?

2.Attend to the gaps, not the content

Between thoughts,awareness is still present.

3.Do not try to grasp awareness

Grasping turns it into an object.

5. Common Signs When the Source Is Recognized

1.Simplicity and groundedness

Nothing dramatic—yet unmistakably real.

2.Natural release of tension

Not through effort,but through non-doing.

3.Clarity with calm

Alert without agitation.

6. Common Misunderstandings

1.Mistaking blankness for the source

Blankness is a state;the source is awareness.

2.Expecting special experiences

Expectation obscures recognition.

3.Trying to remain “in” the source

The source is not a place to stay, but the ground of all experience.

Conclusion

The source of mind is neither inside thoughts nor outside them. When attention returns to the simple fact of knowing, the source is not discovered—it is recognized as already present.
