尘唾自污
佛陀在鹿母讲堂说法。
有一天，佛陀一如往常着衣持钵，到舍卫城乞食，途中一位婆罗门迎面而来，冲着佛陀开口怒骂，佛陀不予理会，仍旧安详地继续前行。
佛陀的从容安详使得婆罗门更加愤怒，于是弯下腰抓起一把土，向着佛陀投掷过去，无巧不巧，这时，正好有一阵风对着婆罗门方向吹过来，这么一来，婆罗门所抛掷出去的泥土正好被风吹回来，于是洒得婆罗门灰头土脸，兀自尴尬地怔在原地。
佛陀慈祥的对婆罗门说偈道：
若人无瞋恨，骂辱以加者，
清净无结垢，彼恶还归己，
犹如土坌彼，逆风还自污。
意思是说，如果有人无缘无故的口出恶言，谩骂一个清净无垢的圣者，那人将自作自受，如同恶意举土掷人，巧遇逆风，反而污秽了自己。

Spitting Dust Only Defiles Oneself
The Buddha was teaching the Dharma at the Migāramātā Hall.
One day, as was his custom, the Buddha donned his robe and took his alms bowl, entering Śrāvastī to seek alms. On the way, a brāhmaṇa approached him and began to hurl insults in anger. The Buddha paid him no heed and continued on his way with serene composure.
The Buddha’s calm demeanor only provoked the brāhmaṇa further. Bending down, he seized a handful of dirt and flung it toward the Buddha. At that very moment, a gust of wind blew directly toward the brāhmaṇa. The dirt he had cast was blown back upon him, covering him in dust and leaving him standing there in embarrassment.
The Buddha, with compassion, spoke a verse to the brāhmaṇa:
“If one harbors no hatred,
Yet is reviled and abused by others,
Pure and free from defilement,
That evil returns upon the one who gave it—
Like dust cast against the wind,
It comes back to defile oneself.”
This means that if someone, without cause, speaks harshly and reviles a pure and undefiled sage, that person will bear the consequences of their own actions. It is like throwing dust at another, only to have it blown back by the wind, defiling oneself instead.
