Sitting Meditation
Eight Life Principles for Meditators
Meditation is not limited to the cushion—it is a way of living. If one meditates deeply but lives unconsciously, the practice cannot truly transform the mind. These eight principles are not commandments but guidance, helping meditators bring clarity, awareness, and stability into daily life.
1.Awareness as the foundation
Maintain gentle knowing in all activities—walking, eating, speaking, working.
Awareness becomes the silent background of life.
2.Simplicity as a value
Less clutter, less noise, fewer distractions.
Simplicity creates inner space for mindfulness to grow.
3.Honesty as a practice
Do not hide from yourself.
See joy as joy, pain as pain.
Authenticity is the ground of true practice.
4.Softness as strength
Do not resist life.
Softness is flexibility, not weakness.
It protects you without harming others.
5.Non-attachment as wisdom
Enjoy without clinging, love without controlling, hold without grasping.
Freedom grows where attachment loosens.
6.Compassion as attitude
Everyone struggles with their own burdens.
Replace judgment with understanding, sharpness with gentleness.
7.Impermanence as a teacher
Change is not a threat but the nature of life.
Seeing impermanence brings ease to loss, pressure, and uncertainty.
8.Quietude as nourishment
Give the mind regular moments of stillness.
A quiet heart can return to its natural clarity.
Conclusion
These eight principles—awareness, simplicity, authenticity, softness, non-attachment, compassion, impermanence, and quietude—support meditators in transforming daily life into continuous practice. When embodied, meditation becomes a way of being, not a technique.
